The Rules of PPIRC
1. Do not attempt to impersonate another user with the nickname system for any reason. This includes using a nickname normally used by someone else (unless they gave you specific permission; and even then it must be made clear that you are not that person.), or attempting to make a nickname look like someone else's (ie: by using a capital i where a lower case L would be.)
2. This is the most important rule of all. CHAT MUST BE KEPT TO A PG-13 RATING BEFORE 9 PM EST. Occasional innuendo is bound to come up, and as long as no one is offended, there is no problem. However, if you are asked to stop by anyone, not just an admin or op, STOP. After 9 PM EST, there is no longer a rating restriction on the channel, but this does not give anyone free reign to say what they want. I trust those of you in this chat to know when too far is too far. Again, if you are asked to stop, STOP. The PG-13 rating resumes at 5 AM EST. If you are confused about what time that is for your time zone, see this page to find your time zone and then this page to convert 9 PM EST to your time zone; if you are still confused, please speak to a staff member.
3. The following things are NEVER appropriate in this channel, regardless of what time it is. Choosing to say any of them will result in swift and unnegotiable banning from the channel for a period of time to be determined by the administrator.
A. Hate speech that targets an individual, a race, a religion, a gender, a sexuality, or anything that specifically targets someone or a facet of their lifestyle.
B. Unwelcome sexual advances towards someone in the channel. (Keep this to a minimum to begin with, but there is a difference between joking and making someone feel uncomfortable.)
C. Linking to pornographic or x-rated websites. Don't ever do this, regardless of what time it is.
4. It is not required, but recommended that you register or group the nicknames you wish to claim. This is done for your own safety and to protect your identity.
A. Registering your nickname can be done by typing the following when you are using the nickname you wish to register: /msg nickserv register PASSWORD EMAIL Replace PASSWORD with your desired password, and EMAIL with your desired email address (must be a working one!). Then check your email and follow the directions to complete registration. (Note: After you register a nickname, you must identify yourself with the following command. Failure to do so will cause the irc channel to turn you into a guest.) /msg nickserv identify PASSWORD
B. Grouping your nicknames comes in handy if you have more than one that you wish to password protect. The following command can be used when you are using a nickname that you wish to group with your main one. (Note: You must be using the mibbit client at http://mibbit.com/chat . The link from PP itself will not work with grouping.) /msg nickserv group MAINNICKNAME MAINPASSWORD Replaces MAINNICKNAME with the nickname you want to group with (must be a registered nickname!) and MAINPASSWORD with the password of your main nickname. Also note that you must use these nicknames at least once in a while, or they will drop from the network and de-register.
