WE'RE BRINGIN ACTIVITY BACK~

THEM OTHER RP SITES CAN'T EVEN MATCH~

Stfu I can't write songs.

Anyways. For those of you who have been in the IRC for the past few minutes, a mass explosion of excitement has smashed into this community.

We're going to come up with the most amazing RP idea ever, then execute it in a mass forum RP that will bring all the sexy activity back.

You guys are continuing to brainstorm as I am typing this, so I'm sort of losing track, but I know what I heard is that you guys want explosions and a new area; perhaps a magical kingdom that is floating above Torae, in which contains a portal to the past and then something something. POST YOUR IDEAS HERE, keep it coming guys, I'm seeing excitement out of everyone and I'm loving it.

What if they discovered the place and a lot of people went back to the past for whatever reasons they might have, to all different times. Then, with a lot of the experienced trainers out of the way (who wouldn't want to battle pastself?) the evil mastermind guy reveals his plan to crash the kingdom into Torae, so the people who didn't go to the past have to try and fix things. Or they could know about the plan from the start and go back to stop it before it happens. Or it could be too late and the survivors are trying to undo the post-apocalyptic world Torae has become.

As to a possible background for what's holding the island up and where it came from:

1) the rift itself was created by some legendary Pokemon

2) It's high up in the sky, thus out of reach from most means

3) A legendary battle between Pokemon opened the rift a little, causing the portal to form, and a land mass was generated from the energy pouring out of the rift.

4) The energy was converted to matter and did so in a "Genisis" type rapid (time was really screwed when it first opened) formation, thus creating a relatively large area in the sky that lends itself to several habitats, jungle forest desert castle areas... idk

5) shadows of ppl and pokemon from an alternate universe were pulled in as well, and depending on when/how they were pulled in, they have varying degrees of power/ sanity

6) Mr mad evil dude thinks he can use the portal to continue to create, pulling energy from the other side of the portal to create his own kingdom, and bring burnination to Torae below.

7) The massive magnetic field from the rift causes a diamagnetic effect on the island, holding it up.

so...some sort of basics so far:

1. The ruins of an ancient kingdom are currently floating over Torae.

2. Somewhere in these ruins is a portal to the past (both to when the kingdom flourished, and to whenever you want to bring a past self in from)

3. Some citizens of the kingdom (in the ancient past) may be mirror images of your characters

4. The villain(s) plan is to crash the ruined kingdom into present-day Torae.

5. He she or they want to do this to get revenge and/or build a new civilization, possibly because they've been driven insane by spending too much time out of their own time period.

6. the Kingdom used to be in the desert, but started floating thanks to the time portal. (yeah, that's vague, but I'm just posting this now)

Alas, a cornucopia of love!

I think the consensus so far has been that you get the opposite of yourself or you go back in time when going through the portal. Not quite sure which one we decided on.

I think we agreed on both. The kingdom is like a mirror or something full of opposites and there's a time portal which is how they got to inhabiting it and that's also how we're going to the past and getting our pastselves to help and whatnot.

It could be both or either:

1. Your past self goes insane from time traveling and becomes evil/opposite

2. Your past self doesn't go insane from time traveling and helps you or whatever

3. A citizen of the ancient kingdom just happens to be your evil opposite or whatever

4. etc

I like that idea. So you can choose what you want to happen when you go through the portal. Sounds good.

A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE LOGICALITY OF A DESERT SETTING IN ORIGIN

To start off, I'd like to present the thematic link of sand with time. Presumably because sand = hourglass = time. This could tie into a theme throughout the story arc as well. Hourglass-themes in decoration or architecture would be very effective, I am particularly imagining a symbol with an hourglass with wings joining around the middle, right above the smallest point. This could be used heavily in architecture or as a seal/crest/whatever of the kingdom.

A desert also makes sense, because, as Ty noted, land is often very fertile and well-farmed before it becomes a desert. The creation of deserts is usually due to the overfarming or badly-planned farming of land, due to crops dying, which means that roots die, and without roots, the ground crumbles and erodes into dust, and sand, creating desert. Since this means that not only would the kingdom be facing an encroaching wasteland desert, but it would also be staring down starvation and increasing hunger, as their food reserves die out due to the failure of crops.

This provides a reason for the antagonist (the emperor or king of this empire or kingdom) to cross the portal; I'd imagine him wandering the older halls of his citadel and finding an artifact, a la the AWESOMEMIRROR(tm) from the Harry Potter MY IMMORTAL movie. This artifact ends up being the portal between times, which he ventures through, never to come back. He spends months, maybe years, wandering the ruins and probably studying some mystical magic or something.

Here, we face options:

make the entire place RUINED and mostly crumbled to dust (toppled towers, etc), providing a very creepy or scary environment, or...

I like the RUINS effect, so I want to keep that in in some way. However, it makes an appealing image to have a huge civilization in near-pristine condition floating in the sky on a massive piece of rock (just blow the dust off and it's good as new). Perhaps he could come back to a certain part that is broken and ransacked, because of peasants and commoners raiding the royal food supplies in the years of famine. This way, he can lift it up into the sky, it looks ominously pristine from below, and it has the ruin effect in it somewhere. A good amount of compromise.

Now, either way, using his method of choice (again, magic works) he levitates the city into the sky. His diabolical plan is set into action: to wreck the old city ("Tor' Ae" a possible name?) into the new civilization, destroying Twilight City and Davenport and whatever other parts he so chooses.

Placing it in a desert also makes it isolated, and hard to be found. Dan would be a good a source as I on the difficulties of locating places in deserts when you don't even know their coordinates (or that they're there at all.) And illusions are pretty effective, too.

Another reason for magic: Pokemon in the old days were probably tamed using trust, since they did not have the modern technology of Pokeballs. Their old-fashioned people were kind and gentle, able to make friends with the land's creatures, and having to battle off the more feral ones. Since he has gone insane, it is likely he couldn't compassionately tame a Pokemon, and since he can't exactly take a trip to the mart and buy a few Pokeballs, he must use malicious magic to tame his Pokemon. He can still have long periods of bonds with them to an extent, since he has been in the desert for all too long. His magic could also make them more feral; ferocious, powerful, and willing to attack trainers, thus making it a good excuse to have many people team up against him in battle. He also wouldn't exactly have the law (which I assume is the major factor limiting how many Pokemon trainers can carry) to make him only carry 6 Pokemon, so he could have the entire ruins crawling with steroids-upped, feral, dark Pokemon.

Also, I think the mental image of a forgotten citadel rising above the land, pouring sand from high in the sky is really cool and really shouldn't be passed up.

I agree with pretty much all that, too...

...I dunno about the "mirror as the portal" thing, though. In my mind, the time portal rift thing needs to be stationary.

edit: well, not so much stationary as imovable from a fixed place in the ruins. If that makes sense.

What if we found some sort of sanctuary with oddly colored pokemon, and one team wanted to take control of the sanctuary, or something to that extent.

@ Dan: I didn't picture it TOTALLY PICTURED IT AS AND NEVER CLAIMED IT WAS NOT stationary. I'd always pictured[1] that mirror in Harry Immortal or whatever to be glued to the ground or cemented or whatever. Like, attached to the ground. Even so, that's how I imagined the mirror.

[1] Harry talks to mirror.

@ Sky: I'm pretty sure shinies are already a valuable resource. >_>

ADDENDUM TO MY PREVIOUS LONG WINDED POST

Additionally, I should add that there's not only the physical danger of the large citadel/kingdom crashing into the land below it, but the danger of a major temporal landmark (colloquially known as the portal) crashing into the ground as well, and being destroyed. There is no telling what would happen when such a massive time-travel device shatters. It should be made clear to the Toraeans that the portal's destruction would wreak massive world-shattering chaos upon the land.

All of these ideas sound good to me. I do have a few questions though...

the trainers that are pulled into this other world, would they be able to catch pokemon there? What types would exist in this evil world? Would our technology, pokeballs, watchs, Nav's, etc, work in this other world? Could one of us bring a few pokeballs and cell them to the peasants, becoming millionaires? ^_^
