Hi there, and welcome to Pokemon Paradise. You’ve stumbled upon what may be one of the closest and most friendly communities on ZetaBoards. Um...Sorry but am I allowed to quesiton how to be a expert linguist? I mean doing a bunch of like storys seems kinda pointless, when you can have just one BIG one? Like I'm working on one as we speak, I think it's in twilight city court system place. Or just in the twilight city main place.

Sure Cullin. Basically, an expert linguist is simply a skilled writer, but one that is exceptionally good. Normally, I wait for at least two nominations, but most of the time, I'm one of the people that nominates as well. Unfortunately, I don't have time to read everyone's RPs, so as an example, if I hadn't RP'ed with Jacob, I never would have read his stuff in Vintage Park, and he never would have received the title. But after RPing with him and reading that stuff, and then he received a nomination, it makes me think about that person, and if they get the title.

I do have a lot of stuff going on, so I don't really always look at people's posts and think, "Do they get a title?" That's why I rely on nominations. We have too many members already for me to read everyone's posts, even though I'd like to if I had time.

I guess.... I could make a list of things that I'm looking for. One thing that I do want to point out, is that I don't put proper grammar or spelling into consideration.... much.

1. Very detailed - This can be accomplished in several ways.
a. Very descriptive of location - when the writer ads a lot of detail about where there are, the time of day, the lighting, how they got there, the sounds they hear, the smells, etc...
b. Very descriptive of battle - When you get past saying, "Panzer used tackle" and start saying stuff like, "Panzer dropped his shoulder, and charged toward the foe, smashing him into a great maple tree." That right there is a 50% of getting the skilled writer title, but when people start really writing about how they do the attacks and what happens if they miss, and you get a sense of just how powerful the move is by how its described. For example, let's say a person uses tackle, and then later they use Double Edge. Just by reading it, if you can feel that the Double Edge attack is more powerful, so strong that it causes damage to the user, that is the mark of an Expert Linguist.
c. Very descriptive of interaction - In-character interaction is an important part of this as well. There are several ways to do this, describing body language, tone of voice, and a person's thoughts.

2. Very accurate - I don't mean accuracy of spelling, but I mean accuracy of description. For example, as I mentioned being descriptive of your surroundings in the post above, simply writing a long intro of descriptions isn't enough. If the reader can tell where you are within that area by your accurate depiction of where you are and your interaction with objects, that is a mark of an Expert Linguist. The same can apply with Pokémon battles. Being descriptive of moves is wonderful, but if a Pokémon just used a physical move like Slam (strike with tail), let's say you have a Nidoking, and you say, "Nidoking threw its weight onto one foot, pivoting in place and bringing its tail down on its foe. The tail smashed the opponent, but Nidoking was now left vulnerable for a second as its back was turned." It wasn't just descriptive, it was accurately descriptive, taking into account that when Nidoking turned around to hit something with his tail, he's got his back turned for a second. Likewise, if you use a physical attack on someone, you're at point blank range to get blasted in the face with some special move. (like right after my ttar hit cullin's glaceon, at that range, there was no way I could dodge a special attack) If you take that stuff in account, that is a mark of an expert linguist.

3. Really stinking cool - This should describe itself.

4. Plot - you've got to have a nice plot going on.

I hope that helps to describe what I'm looking for.

^Excellent description, Steve. XD It's hard to describe what exactly makes up a skilled writer, because everyone's style of writing is different and may not share the same traits. For me, I think someone is truly a skilled writer if I can picture what's going on in the roleplay in my mind very clearly and very easily. I couldn't break it down any further than that, but thankfully someone was able to. XD
